Yesterday Nate and I had to get our Temple recommends renewed and drove all the way to Allen TX to do it. Usually car rides are not my most favorite thing to do but yesterday was eventful.
I have been working with Charly and counting for a while and she hasn't been much for counting after thirty. Looking out the window she just starts counting on the little measuring tape she got at Hobby Lobby about a year ago. She hits forty, then fifty, then eighty, then finally 100! It was an exciting moment for us all. It's always amazing when you witness their lightbulb click on for something new.
I've noticed that even though kids her age may be able to count by tens/fives to 100, they couldn't necessarily show you 100 things...the concept is not understood. I am more concerned with Charly showing me what 100 looks like, rather then simply memorizing numbers.
Not five minutes earlier I was talking to Nate about how this age seems to me like it is a little more difficult to teach at home because there isn't really a way to determine what or exactly how she is learning. At this age it's more about building her character than academics. We are continuing to read, and she continues to listen. She picks out words all over the place and gets excited about it every time.

Of course we were about 20 minutes early to the Stake Center, but lucky for us there was a pond just behind the parking lot, which reminded us of Utah and Grandma and Grandpa Orr's pond.
The girls ran all over the place. Charly chased Piper. Piper chased Charly. It was too cute just observing the two of them playing together. Piper admires Charly so much and is starting to mimic EVERYTHING Charly does and says.
If you scroll back up to the first picture you will notice a mama and baby duck running from the girls. Poor little babe!

After all was said and done at the Stake center we went to get ice cream as promised. Charly wanted vanilla and Piper wanted chocolate...and I being doomed for punishment decided to get her that chocolate ice cream cone. The whole 45 minute ride to the Bonham Wal Mart was practically without incident as the girls licked and kept quiet.
We HAD to get water and groceries so we all ventured into Wolly word with both girls covered in ice cream and neither one of us cared. It was actually quite funny and Piper blended right in with all the other naked, dirty, screaming babies usually found there.

And as for school yesterday, I should mention that while Charly was making a mobile, Piper was scribbling on paper too. I go to hang Charly's mobile and Piper is following me around telling me to hang her art too. So cute! She pointed where, I hung it up and she was happy.

I agree on the character thing, my cousins are all teaching there 2 year olds to read! The one Logans age was reading at 2 and talks so well and of course was potty trained at 18 months and thats all they talk about. I'm like is it really about them being ahead or you showing off what kind of a mother you are, grrrr. Its so annoying. Good for charly! That is such a good way of putting learning. I agree on memorizing, there is such a difference between that and understanding. How wonderful that you can teach her the way she learns. Go momma Renee
I like the shopping cart picture. I would never think to bring my camera to wolly world, but it makes for some fun shots
