Last saturday Nate and I attended a dining out with the Guard unit in Ft. Worth. My mom drove up to stay overnight with the girls. I headed out the door to meet Nate when she got to Honey Grove. This was to be the very first overnight Nate and I have ever had with no kids! I should mention that it was a VERY VERY good idea I didn't get rid of my breast pump a few years back. 12 ounces of milk is not the most comfortable thing to be hanging onto with no baby to help out.
Nate and I attended a Combat dining out when we were in the AF back in Germany, but that was a while back and I forgot about all the rules they have. The whole theme to the event was like an English round table (don't quote me on that). The first hour and a half was spent sending people who violated the rules to the grog bowl ( a toilet filled with a mixture of liquor.... when you walk up to it you have to salute the "president" followed by a few other things). We had great company at our table and halfway through we had the privelage of hearing from the Command Chief MS of the AF guard (highest enlisted in the guard, works at the Pentagon). He gave an amazing speech with lots of facts and figures about the military and it really put things into perspective for me. For the first time ever I felt really honored to be a part of the AF and to have served. I didn't realize how few people are actually in the military compared to our American population, it's fewer than 1% who volunteer. I think I just assumed that it was nothing special to join the military, it's something EVERYONE does...clearly that is not the case.
I totally should have blogged when I got back Sunday because my memory is fogging up! Nate and I had a blast, even though he pulled me out of the event just as they let the DJ strike up the dance floor! Seriously Nate, dancing is my fave!!! He already knew that though.
Both girls were alive and well when I got back, I left the insurance card with my mom just in case, LOL.
