There has been two things I've wanted since I was little, to play in a Mariachi band, AND to be a full time glasses wearer. Well, the second part of my fantasies came true this week! I took the girls for a routine eye exam Monday and went in thinking I was just going to get my drab reading prescription taken care of when I got some of the most exciting news of my adult life. I too would need a vision correction in the form of full time glasses! I'm not sure if the excitement that was oozing from inside of me showed at all, but you bet your butt I was anxious to get to pick out frames with Charly. I seriously thought perhaps the optometrist misspoke so I asked him politely if I heard him right saying, "you mean for reading right?" and a big fat N-O-P-E came out of his mouth followed by the instructions to wear them full time. You know me, always following doctor's orders.....well, at least when it comes to the future of me involving specs. I wasn't going to turn this order down!
As Charly and I picked out frames (which will take a whopping three weeks to be done), Piper had the most pathetic, sad meltdown I have ever seen. She too wanted glasses. She wears Charly's old frames all the time with the lenses popped out but she wanted real glasses like us. She felt so left out, it was sad, my heart broke for her. Being a little girl and dreaming of belonging to a club so great, exposing you to just one more accessory is something I know far too much about. LOL
In the end after we picked out our main pair, we took Piper to get her glasses as a "special store" where the frames were much less expensive ($9 to be exact) so she could pick some out too.
So here we are, my four-eyed posse, I wonder when Winnie and Nate will join the club. I have a sneaky suspicion that Nate isn't too far behind.....at least I hope so.
{Charly and I are sporting our place saver glasses, (this pair is my back up and not near as great as the main ones) the real boom will come in a couple of weeks! }
Charly is holding our farm cat, Garfield, and Piper is holding the hen, whom I suspect is actually a rooster, and 'it's' name is Ranger. Go figure, I pick out the chicken who can't lay eggs, but has really cool feathered feet. Functional but not practical, it's what I always say anyways, tee hee hee.And I am holding our smallest chickpea Winnie, who is also excited about the whole new gaggle of glasses, she scored a new toy out of the deal that will always be available right in front of my face.
Funny story about the cat Charly is holding....last Tuesday we walked to the library, which is about three blocks away from the house and this darn cat followed us the whole way. Not only that, it waited right outside the door for us to get out, and, followed us back home. I guess that cat and I are a little alike, we both can't seem to get enough of the girls.
Piper shares her love with all the chickens and is an amazing "rounder upper" of them. She has no problem catching them and holding them like little babies. Here she is holding Charly's favorite, Pippa!
There still aren't any eggs being laid but shortly we should see some production from these ladies. Unfortunately we are one short as I type this, the other day the gate got left open and our smallest chicken Eglentine must have gotten eaten or snatched by something. We came home Wednesday, and she was nowhere to be found, the smallest of the bunch was an easy target for any predators. Lesson learned: always double check the coop and make sure the gate is closed.
This picture is just a little blurb of our daily happenings, makes my heart smile in so many ways.
{*OK, so getting glasses obviously isn't the best news of my entire adult life, but it is definitely tied for fourth or fifth place! LOL}

I wanted braces and glasses as a kid, but yesterday planting my garden and them sliding down my nose from the sweat I seriously wanted to chuck them in the trash and go get lasik - but other than those times glasses are super cute ;)
You are so funny! I always wanted glasses too. I got my first pair when I was 7 or 8. I look back at the ones I chose and I am embarassed. Oh well I like the ones I have now. lol
