Some people thought it couldn't be done (ahem, DAD) but look what we did this weekend.....
Despite our miniature sized van that seats six non car seated people we managed to get three mega tron sized car seats to fit, and tight too. Nice and snug, just the way we like em. The only thing I would have liked to do is keep Piper rear facing as she is about 9 pounds from the rear limit for her seat. after looking at our options it just didn't seem practical in our car to have her rear, so she joined Charly in "the trunk" forward facing. I am really working hard at not feeling guilty about this, I did however keep my girl rear facing for three years! I should get an award for that...shouldn't I?
This whole time I thought there would be absolutely no room for goodies in the car now that there will soon be three ginormous car seats occupying the back seat but I was wrong. I mean look at that back 1x3 area!! OK OK the girls may be buried in groceries occasionally but really people have dealt with less space than this.
They both were VERY excited to be in such close proximity to each other, I'm sure at times they won't be so happy about that though. Also, they thought it was way cool that they would be facing the baby and provide car entertainment for the new little one.
I spent three hours yesterday deep cleaning the car and getting ready for the baby seat (I don't like to add new things to messes) this included a shampooing of the seats and the floor in the car, what a difference that makes!
The baby seat blends in just great and check out those side "airbags" on the seat. I have to laugh at how "safe" this seat is. I was reminded today of a scene out of the Baby Mama movie where Tina Fey's character is shopping for strollers. She is uber impressed by one that busts out airbags if the stroller hits any sort of bump. I turned to Nate and started laughing...."We are those safety freak people, I bet Britax made this seat as a joke just to see who would go that far" Ha ha, we WOULD go this far. We had a good chuckle. Not sure this joke will ever get old for me. I will forever be reminded of this movie when I see the sides on this thing.....You can push the sides and they go in, fun entertainment for all.
We even got a car seat for me!
Only kidding....but heck if I were just 30 pounds lighter I would be able to rock Charly's seat. Which reminds me, this is how much Charly is unaffected by the whole strapped down thing, a couple of days ago she seriously asked me if I thought she would be out of her car seat by the time she is 16. To which I replied "Oh Charly I'm sure you will be out it long before then." Love our little safety kids!
While we were in McKinney yesterday we browsed Target and the girls and I literally almost peed our pants with excitement when we saw the tiny newborn boy clothes. We BEGGED Nate to buy just one outfit just in case, he laughed and reminded me that he would indeed be OK in something we had. Nate cracks me up, I hope for his sake we make/adopt a boy someday, this girly squealing must get old at some point....although he would never admit that...just like he would never admit that he actually LIKES musicals (right Mickey?)
So here we are, diapers washed, car seat purchased (thank you dad!) and reluctantly no boy clothes, but it's OK.
I continue to have daydreams of a psychedelic birth. Yeah folks you read that right, I am going to get HIGH during this labor...that is my goal and I'm not talking about a drug high my friends. Supposedly if I change my way of thinking about the contractions I can make it so instead of pain it feels good. This is my goal and I WILL do it. What makes me any different from the hippy ladies I am reading about in Spiritual Midwifery?....(besides the obvious lack of armpit hair.)
In other news...
Piper climbed the tree in the back yard last week so high that Nate had to climb the tree to get her out. While I was laughing Nate was panicked. I should also mention that not even Charly has climbed as high as Piper got. OH the joys of having a fearless daughter!
