This is huge

Sometimes you need an experience to make you feel like you are part of something big. Something really big.
Nate has been planning a trip to the air expo at Carswell in Ft. Worth since he found out about it a couple of drills ago. I'm always a little reluctant to do day trips that are a couple of hours away because of the preparation for just one days worth of fun but as soon as we arrived I felt a lump in my throat and was full of pride. I guess because the girls and I aren't involved in base activities as much as we were, say in Utah, that I forget how awesome it is to be a part of a military family. In Utah while Nate was in the Reserves we were constantly reminded of military because it was all around us with the base right down the street.

I forgot about the pride you feel to have a spouse wearing the Blues/BDU's, even if it is on a part time basis. I felt a little sick that we gave this lifestyle up full time, but then I remembered how awesome it is to have my husband home at night to tuck the girls in and how unbearable it would be for him to be gone for months.

Every once in a while I forget the blessings that we have from getting out of the military full time, while most of the time we could certainly use the extra money the military would bring, we are far more blessed from the family time we have than money could ever buy. I feel lucky to know that.
Besides seeing an amazing display of static planes, talking to a real life pilot (Charly was very excited about that part) and feelings of patriotism we all got sunkissed after a long day in the sun on the runway. But really, I ask you, what is an airshow without a little sunburned noses?
Winnie spent the day sleeping in the sling or cruising in the stroller, I still don't get how her little nose managed to get sunburned with a giant bonnet covering her face.
So while this was one of those lifetime moments where Nate and I both wonder if we made the right choice by getting out of the military, I am quickly brought out of my haze and remember the little moments that make it all worth while.

But seriously my friends, if you have never been to an air show, I would suggest you put it on your bucket list. There is no other way to get the "proud to be an American" feeling, at least not in my opinion. I am so proud of my Airman and every one else serving our country, it is quite the honorable position!
