As I was finishing up planting seeds in the garden while the girls were busy making muddy messes I got a phone call informing me Charly had a T-ball game at 5:30, it was 4:45 and the location was 35 minutes away.
(For some reason, we are on the last of the list to know things about her schedule. It is a little irritating but I'll manage)
ANYHOW......
A rush of panic/laughter rushed through me as a hurried to get Charly into a decent get-up and Piper into the house to at least put some shoes on and comb her hair. We had five minutes to get out the door and I was determined to do it.
Once there, I had to get past feeling like a complete hillbilly with seeds still in my pocket ready to be planted.
The game was going well and Charly was having fun running around with no clue of what she was doing. It was so cute. She was playing 2nd base and every time the ball was hit she would run all over the field towards the crowd of kids leaving her base completely unmanned.
Everything was hunky dory for the time being until this happened......
Poor Charly, she is always fallin'. As hard as it was not to run out in the field to help her, Nate assured me that it would be worse if we did. The coach helped her up and within a minute she was back cheerfully playing. I'm sure it helped that the crowd in the bleachers cheered for her when she got up.
We are proud of her efforts and it's great to see her having fun with kids in the neighborhood. She really does try so hard and let me know before bed tonight that she was going to practice all day tomorrow so she could help her team win.
Throughout the whole game Charly had her own personal cheerleader, Piper, who was shouting "Go, Charly", "Good Job Charly, run, run, run" What a delight it was when Charly looked out from second base to see her family cheering her own. The smirk she gave us let me know, she knew we are proud of her!
On the drive home we stopped in a camp site to let Charly pee and noticed the Dogwoods are blooming. They are absolutely stunning and it is joyful to see this area come to life again.
One of my favorite things about spring is all the wildflowers and their fragrant blossoms. Nate often brings me a bunch after work in a water bottle with the top cut off. It makes me very happy. There really is so much beauty out here, sometimes you just have to look extra hard to find it/appreciate it.
